About Old Colorado City, Colorado

Old Colorado City is registered as a historic district and had the short lived title of the capital of the territory of Colorado and the county seat. After its 5-day stint as the unofficial capital of the territory, legislators moved their meeting to Denver, which has been the capital of Colorado since then.

Old Colorado City had the potential to be a bustling town because it was situated in a prime location between the mountain towns drawing miners to the Gold Rush, the plains sprouting the agricultural fruits of the area, and the new roads being built to Denver. This historic district’s rich history runs deep and residents who are multi-generational residents of Colorado can share stories passed down from their grandparents.

If you like historic charm and neighbors who know your name, Old Colorado City could be the perfect place to locate your family. Most of the homes are single family or townhomes built with the charm of days gone by. The lots tend to be close together, and each home is unique in size and style. There are no subdivisions or tract homes here. A few of the historic homes or empty lots are now being redeveloped, and contemporary homes are dotting the landscape occasionally between the Victorian homes that Old Colorado City is known for.

“Shop, dine, discover” is the motto of Old Colorado City and this little neighborhood gives you the opportunity to do that.
